Enneagram & Relationship Typing Assessment
Discover Your Enneagram Type Through the Lens of Relationship
CETA™ (Couples & the Enneagram Typing Assessment) is an innovative tool created by Michelle Joy, LMFT, Relationship Specialist, Certified Enneagram Teacher and Founder of the Developmental Enneagram for Couples – an approach that blends the Enneagram with the science of differentiation — the capacity to be authentic while staying connected to another. The questions in this assessment are drawn from Michelle’s 25+ plus of this experience.
Unlike traditional Enneagram tests that measure personality traits in general, the CETA™ indicates your Enneagram type through relational experience. It does not assess the quality of your relationship — instead, it suggests your Enneagram type based on how you naturally show up in communication, conflict resolution, and differentiation.
What Makes the CETA™ Unique?
The CETA™ is designed specifically for couples and individuals in relationship. It shines a light on the dynamics that matter most:
- Self-Differentiation – How you express your truth, needs, and emotions while staying grounded in yourself.
- Partner Differentiation – How you hear, hold, and make space for your partner’s truth without losing your own center.
- Speaking Style & Communication Patterns – The unique way each Enneagram type voices concerns, expresses needs, or withholds feelings — and how these styles affect relational dynamics.
By rooting Enneagram typing questions in real relational experiences, the CETA™ goes deeper than generic tests. It shows you how your type operates in the crucible of intimacy, where patterns are most revealing.
The Foundation of the CETA™
This assessment draws on:
- Clinical insights from thousands of hours of couples therapy
- The Developmental Enneagram for Couples™ model
- Research-informed principles of attachment, differentiation, and Enneagram personality patterns
Important Note: The CETA™ is not a scientific or psychometric test. It is a professionally developed, experience-based tool for self-reflection, personal growth, and enhancing relationship dynamics.
The Evolvement of CETA
The Enneagram framework itself is timeless — the 9 core types and growth paths do not change. What this assessment measures is stable and rooted in decades of theory and practice.
As time goes on, we may refine how certain questions are word so that they measure the same patterns with more clarity and accuracy. We may also add measures which test for wings and/or subtypes.
Your results are not a “moving target.” Instead, the tool itself is continuously sharpened so that it reflects the essence of the Enneagram — and of you — with the most clarity possible.
Enjoy!
